Preview Your Locket Photos in Different Shapes

Posted by

Using the App Afterlight to Help You Select Photos For Your Locket Shape

One of the hardest things for our customers to do is to imagine what their photographs will look like made into a tiny photo insert for their locket. The lockets come in different shapes and there are certain compositions of photographs that look best in each shape locket. We talk more about this in our FAQ section, if you would like to check it out.

If you are unsure if your photo will look good in a certain shape crop, then we have a handy tool to help you out.  There is an app called Afterlight that give you a simple way to see what your photos will look like in these different shapes.

You can download it here:

Afterlight for Android

We have put together a “How To Guide” for you using a downloadable app on your phone.

  1. Open the Afterlight app on your phone.
  2. Select the image you are interested in using in your Journey Locket.
  3. Click “Use”.

For Square Lockets:

  1. Choose the Crop Tool. (Next to last tool on the bottom right.) Next choose the far left Cropping Line Tool on the toolbar that pops up above. Select the Square shape crop. You can resize the square to see what will fit into the crop.
  2. If your photo will not fit inside of the square, you should select a different photograph for your locket. Find one that works well with the square shape by testing more photos in this same way.
  3. Click the X and BACK button to cancel the crop and keep your original photo intact. You do not need to crop the images for us to use. We prefer you send the original non-cropped image and let us do the cropping on our end. This tool is to allow you to see if your photograph will work for a particular shaped locket.

For Round,Oval, Hexagon Lockets:

  1. Choose the Mask Tool. (Last tool on the bottom right.) Next choose the far left Shape Mask Tool on the toolbar that pops up above. The toolbar will change to allow you to select the shapes. Select the Circle Mask if you have a round locket, a Vertical Oval Mask if you have an oval locket, and the Horizontal Hexagon Mask if you have a hexagon locket. You can move the photo inside of the mask to reposition it. You can also resize the mask by using the slider on the bottom of the screen.
  2. If the subjects in your photo will not fit inside of the shape, you should select a different photograph for your locket. Find one that works well with the your shape by testing more photos in this same way.
  3. Click the X and BACK button to cancel the crop and keep your original photo intact. You do not need to crop the images for us to use. We prefer you send the original non-cropped image and let us do the cropping on our end. This tool is to allow you to see if your photograph will work for a particular shaped locket.
